DEFY | HEMP 101
“All CBD is not created equal.” – Terrell Davis, Forbes
Cannabinoid use has exploded in recent years as the world becomes more aware of its potentially life-changing benefits and uses. But the industry is still young, and it’s hard to know if the products you’re getting are safe, high-quality and effective. DEFY is determined to provide the highest-quality hemp extract in all our products.
As a nascent industry, innovative new ways to leverage the power of cannabinoids will continue to emerge at rapid speed. DEFY stands by a promise to lead the charge in evolving the hemp extract industry for the better: establishing new standards in tech, product excellence and advocacy.
ELEVATING THE INDUSTRY
New delivery methods and achievements in “bioavailability” are spurring new studies, treatments, and potential for improving the lives of athletes and the general public alike. In response to the industry’s meteoric growth—and consequential loose production standards—DEFY Performance Beverages has assembled alliances with scientists and laboratories to support the science and health research behind hemp extract.
It’s our job to revolutionize the industry—and the athlete’s job to benefit from it.
Marijuana and Hemp are actually two different varieties of the same plant species – Cannabis Sativa. Because they share the same species name, there is a lot of confusion around the differences between them. Both varieties produce cannabinoids. Hemp is the variety of Cannabis Sativa that has been bred to have very low levels of THC (0.3% or less) and varying levels, sometimes high levels, of CBD. In fact, to be legally considered Hemp, the Cannabis plant must have less than 0.3% THC.
There are more than one hundred unique chemical compounds found in the Cannabis plant called cannabinoids. The two most famous cannabinoids are Cannabidiol (CBD) and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is the intoxicating, psychoactive cannabinoid that acts as a euphoriant and gets you “high.” CBD is one of the most prevalent non-psychoactive, non-intoxicating cannabinoids that has recently received so much attention in the medical as well as the health and wellness spaces. Other non-psychoactive cannabinoids found in many extracts include Cannabigerol (CBG) and Cannabichromene (CBC).
DEFY's CBD is sourced from industrial hemp grown by state-licensed farms within the United States, and thus is legal under the 2018 Farm Bill, which made hemp products with less than 0.3% THC exempt from being considered controlled substances. We recommend checking your state’s laws regarding CBD products prior to purchasing and consuming the product.
Cannabinoids are natural compounds that interact with the body’s Endocannabinoid System. Cannabinoids are thought to stimulate the Endocannabinoid System which helps to promote homeostasis in the body, with the potential to, among other things, reduce the sensation of pain and inhibit inflammation. Research into the Endocannabinoid System and possible uses of CBD and other cannabis compounds is a growing field so the full range of potential health and wellness benefits are likely to be much better understood as time goes on.
CBD (Cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid associated with numerous health and wellness benefits, and is one of the many cannabinoids found in both Hemp and Marijuana.
No. CBD is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid. Our DEFY products contain 0% THC.
Hemp, like many plants, can absorb the toxins and impurities in the air and soil in which it is grown. Some Hemp extracts on the market come from other countries and may contain heavy metals and other chemical contaminants. All of the CBD used in our products is derived from select hemp cultivated in the U.S.A., which allows us to maintain the highest standards of quality and purity.
Hemp oil is pressed from the leaves, flowers, stems and stalks of the plant and contains cannabinoids and other compounds. Hemp seed oil, on the other hand, is pressed from the seeds of the plant, and contains little to no CBD. Hemp seed oil has been on the market for decades as a food and dietary supplement and is sometimes used in beauty and personal care products. Hemp seed oil does not have the same properties and benefits as Hemp oil/CBD oil.
An isolate extract is a specific cannabinoid ingredient in isolation (e.g. CBD, CBG or CBC only). Full spectrum extracts include a blend of multiple cannabinoids and is believed by many to provide the most comprehensive health and wellness benefits. As with any health and wellness supplement, you should do your own research and consult with your physician regarding the best option for your specific needs.
